Thomas Sinclair
Thomas Sinclair is turtle clan, and a member of Couchiching First Nation in treaty 3 territory of Northwestern Ontario. He was trained in the symbolism of woodland art by master artist Isadore Wadow until the time of Isadores death in 1984.
His anishnaabe name is Miiskwaabiik Maadjikawis which translates to the red metal whirlwind who sits in the western doorway. He is a traditional knowledge keeper and tells the legends of his people through reinterpretations of ancient pictographs and petroglyphs that are scattered throughout the Ontario wilderness.
He is also an accomplished artist internationally with contributions to International Contemporary Art Fairs in Venice Italy, Innsbruck Austria, Brussels Belgium, Madrid Spain and London England. He is also co organizer and co curator of Tisiget Indigenous Art Project which helps showcase indigenous artists in larger art markets in Canada.
