Grace Afonso

Born in Sudbury Ontario, Grace Afonso has lived in many small towns across Ontario, as well as a few years in Portugal. By good fortune, Grace attended a specialty art high school where she was introduced to a variety of mediums, and her passion for art was sparked. Grace always had an interest in capturing the world around her, and continued her education at the Dundas Valley School of Art, OCAD University, Haliburton School of Art and Design, and completed residencies in Umbria Italy, and Céret, France.

The subject matter of Graces’s work is the celebration of color shown in the exploration of the domestic scene and landscape. It is colours power to effect mood that works as the driving principle behind Grace’s translation of her life to the canvas. She is drawn to representing the home where people gather, and the indoor and outdoor spaces they live in.
