Employing a grammar of abstraction that borrows equally from aerial photography, map symbolism and primitive iconography, Chris Ahlers creates colourful paintings that are as visually engaging as they are cerebral. Painterly abstraction meshes with hard-edge elements to yield canvases that reverberate with compositonal tension and evoke natural rhythms. These paintings form a contemporary response to the riddle of beauty and subjective experience.
