Chris Ahlers
Chris Ahlers has been painting actively for over 30 years and has participated in numerous solo and group shows. Employing a grammar of abstraction that borrows equally from aerial photography, map symbolism and primitive iconography, Chris Ahlers creates colourful paintings that are as visually engaging as they are cerebral. Painterly abstraction meshes with hard-edge elements to yield canvases that reverberate with compositonal tension and evoke natural rhythms. These paintings form a contemporary response to the riddle of beauty and subjective experience. His work is in the collections of the University of Toronto and the Art Gallery of Guelph, as well as many private collections. He is the co-owner of Wyndham Art Supplies in Guelph, Ontario with his wife Tammy Ratcliff.
