Steven Nederveen

Steven Nederveen is a Canadian contemporary artist whose practice bridges fine art, photography, and painting, creating luminous works rooted in magical realism, spirituality, and the natural landscape. He studied Fine Art at Medicine Hat College before earning a Bachelor of Design from the University of Alberta in 1995.

In 1996, Nederveen relocated to Vancouver, where he lived and worked until 2000. During this period, his engagement with meditation and immersion in the West Coast’s natural environment became formative influences, shaping both his personal growth and artistic direction. These experiences led him to explore painting as a means of drawing connections between nature, inner reflection, and spiritual awareness.

By blurring the boundaries between photography and painting, Nederveen develops richly layered compositions that invite viewers to see the world with renewed perception. His process often includes distressing and aging the surface, evoking a sense of past and present, struggle and transformation. Each work is finished with a glass-like resin coating, enhancing colour clarity while subtly reflecting the viewer, creating an intimate, immersive experience.

Steven Nederveen’s artwork has been featured internationally in galleries, art fairs, interior design shows, and magazines, and is held in numerous private collections worldwide.
