Gordon Leverton

Gordon Leverton is a self-taught Canadian painter based in Hamilton, Ontario, known for his urban landscape and architectural art. His signature style portrays cityscapes using flattened perspectives, vibrant colors, and dynamic light and shadow, breaking down buildings, shadows, and skylines into interlocking, puzzle-like compositions. Leverton works primarily in acrylics, using thin washes to explore community, urban connectivity, and overlooked physical spaces, while increasingly integrating abstract elements into his city-focused practice.

Leverton has been recognized with multiple honors, including the 2024 City of Hamilton Creator Arts Award, 2023 Art of Heritage Award, and election to The Ontario Society of Artists. He is active in the arts community as a member of the Society of Canadian Artists, Ontario Society of Artists, Hamilton Artists Inc., and Hamilton Arts Council, and as a founding member of the West Hamilton Artists Tour (W.H.A.T.) and co-founder of SOCIAL SPACE, an artist-run pop-up arts and charity initiative.

His work has appeared in publications, broadcasts, and media, including TV and film, and is held in private and corporate collections nationally and internationally. Leverton lives in Hamilton with his wife and two children.
