CYNTHIA GATIEN

Cynthia Gatien is a self-taught artist whose creative journey has taken her from photography and decorative painting to her true passion, painting on canvas. Originally trained in nursing, she discovered her artistic eye while studying photography in Atlanta in the 1980s, developing a keen appreciation for nuance, detail, and colour.

After returning to Canada, she spent many years exploring decorative painting, working with patterns, textures, and colour, and co-owning a studio where she painted floorcloths and a variety of objects. Since returning to rural Eastern Ontario in 2002, Cynthia has devoted herself to painting on canvas, drawing on these rich experiences to shape her distinctive approach.

Now in her seventies, she continues to find joy and inspiration in her home studio. Her goal is to create affordable art that brightens a room, brings happiness, and reminds people of the pleasure and importance of living with art.
