Stéphanie Rivet
Stéphanie Rivet (b. 1972) is a Canadian contemporary visual artist recognized for her expressive abstract paintings and intuitive creative process. She studied mathematics before shifting her focus to visual arts, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM) in 1998. Since then, she has exhibited consistently in galleries across Canada, the United States, and Europe.
Her abstract paintings, created with acrylic on canvas, express a free universe through gesture and color, where imagination unfolds without constraint. Working primarily in acrylic on canvas, Rivet creates vibrant abstract compositions guided by spontaneity, gesture, and experimentation. Her practice explores themes of joy, self-reconnection, and emotional freedom, using bold contrasting colours and dynamic mark-making to evoke movement, vitality, and the beauty of the natural world. Through layered surfaces and energetic forms, she invites viewers into an open space of imagination and subjective interpretation.
