Jim Bourke
Jim Bourke is a Toronto-based contemporary figurative painter specializing in encaustic painting. The wax-based medium of encaustic informs his art. The works are bold which capture the slightest gestures and nuances of the hand. His paintings are a series of indecisions and revisions each acting as an independent process revealing the visible traces of its construction. HeBourke studied Fine Art at York University, graduated from OCAD University, and trained in computer animation at Sheridan College. He is an active member of Toronto’s artistic community, serving on the board of The Propeller Gallery. His work has been recognized with awards in juried exhibitions including the Ontario Society of Artists (OSA), Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition (TOAE), Mississauga Art Gallery, and the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts (RCA). Bourke was also featured on the reality TV show Star Portraits and was a finalist in the Kingston Prize for Portraiture. His paintings are included in private and corporate collections across Canada.
