SUMMER MEMORIES - AN EXHIBITION OF PAINTINGS BY CANADIAN ARTIST DONNA ANDREYCHUK

Canvas Gallery is pleased to present the paintings of Donna Andreychuk in a solo show of her work this October, entitled Summer Memories. October also marks the 17th anniversary of the gallery.

From the Artist:

I am a Canadian artist in love with Canada. I have a romantic notion of exploring this Country, one province at a time, with a paint box in one hand and a palette full of juicy oils in the other.

Canadian art is deeply rooted in it's landscape. My early inspiration came from our revered "Group of Seven" and others. The colour and texture of the forest floor inspire me as much as the open vista. The smell of fresh air is translated into cool blues. The lush undergrowth of pine needles and moss are smokey and warm. Textures of sand and rock are everywhere, showing up in a million shades of grey.

This body of work, Summer Memories, is based on memories of my journeys, and plein air work. Summers are fleeting, along with fireflies and sunsets. Time slows, giving us the opportunity to daydream, reflect and breathe.

An Ontario summer is where my heart is happiest.

Donna Andreychuk was born on a farm in Kenilworth, Ontario in 1959. She grew up in the Hanover area where she attended high school and worked part time in the family wool shop. In 1984 she opened her own ladies clothing store/ boutique, Ruffles Feminine Fashions. After ten successful years she sold the business and pursued her lifelong interest in art and painting. She moved to Owen Sound in 1994 where she was surrounded by the Georgian Bay Landscape and was able to spend her days studying the art of painting. She took classes and workshops and spent a number of years dedicated to developing her visual language. After moving to London, in 1999, she began painting professionally.

Donna’s work can be found in private collections worldwide and in numerous corporate collections. Her main interest is in the Canadian landscape, with plein air painting playing an integral part in her working process. Her work leans towards abstraction and borrows from other traditions. Many of her works are ornamental and appear to blend impressionism with hints of Canadian and Scandinavian landscape styles. Donna's unique brushwork gives her paintings their brilliance and animates the surface, energizing the picture plane with colour and vibrancy.

Donna works out of her studio space in the heart of her hometown village of Delaware where she lives with her husband Rick. They are the proud parents of three grown sons Christopher, Graham and Andrew.

We could not be more excited to share this exhibition of the work of one of the gallery's most sought-after artists. Donna's landscape and abstract works have been a favourite of our clients since she joined our roster in 2009.

Please join us for the opening reception of Donna Andreychuk's Summer Memories on Thursday October 17th, from 6 to 8pm, at 950 Dupont St. in Toronto.
