Tanya Kirouac

A technique as old as recorded time, brought forward with modern adaptations, encaustic creates opportunity for dynamic landscapes, emotive sculpture, and wistful remembrance. An art form drawn from the cradle of civilization, renewed by time, to transform and illuminate touchstone moments which are, in themselves, timeless.

Her beautifully composed pieces are tiny and huge – a few inches to several feet, filling all range of space in galleries, private collections and favourite rooms across North & South America, Europe, Asia and Australia. The images, drawn most often from nature, are at once real and dream-like. The luminosity of her wax, so elegantly and finely applied, becomes thick and rich with layering as it takes its final form as a rose, a cloud or field. A pause, captured.

Since Tanya shifted from a career in art direction and graphic design to the life of a full-time fine artist, she's been well-received by arts and design media. Her paintings have been featured as the centrepiece of television makeover and design shows and featured in interior design magazines and respected artisanal publications. Today, Tanya is likeliest to be found dripping beautiful, coloured wax all over the floor of her Toronto studio, or looking out a window watching the way light falls on wild poppies and hay fields.
