Daryl Banks

Daryl Banks is a Toronto based photographer.  Oft inspired by the strange, surreal and whimsical.  Taking his cue from dreams, fantasies and an overly ambitious imagination.  Convinced that photography is false and fictional, more an interpretation than the facts, an impression of what has transgressed.  Like memories where we have only vague ideas and situated truths, nothing is concrete and certainty is an illusion.  Often manipulating the photos with techniques such as cross processing, over saturation and high contrast, looking to continue the idea that this is an impression and not a reality.  

Self taught through books and instinct Daryl worked as an assistant in the world of commercial photography.  Dividing his time between commercial work and fine art Daryl has recently begun the transition to a full time focus on his art. His work has been exhibited in galleries in Canada and the Netherlands as well as magazines such as Domus, Elle Canda, Vision, Palace and others.
